On Tuesday 16th January 2018, 37 retired officers belonging to the OTA or Officers Training Academy came together for one important reason. It is now said that these 37 officers unveiled a Bronze statue in memory of their friend and batch mate Major R. Parameshwaran on the above mentioned date and it was really touching moment. It is worthy to mention here that these officers who have retired from their jobs have passed out from this OTA some 45 years ago.

They all have contributed together Rs 7 lakh money plus 1 lakh amount was received from the Mahar regiment where Major R. Parameshwaran served.

It is important to note that Major R. Parameshwaran belonging to Indian Peace Keeping Force or IPKF lost his life in the year 1987 when he fought against the LTTE militants.

Param Vir Chakra was first established in the year 1950 and it is our nation’s highest military decoration given to those persons who have contributed during war times. This special award was given to Major R. Parameshwaran also after his death.

It is great to mention that the OTA drill square plus Kodambakkam based army welfare housing board building was also named after Major Parameshwaran. It is now said that Tamil Nadu did not recognize this Major Parameshwaran’s contributions and in this aspect TN differed from other states where persons belonging to other states who have won this highest Param Vir Chakra award were treated highly. This made these 37 retired officers to do something for their friend and batch mate who had passed away.

A get together was organized under Colonel KG. Nair at Trivandrum a year back and at this get together the decision to do something in remembrance of Major Parameshwaran was taken and is executed now.

Ram Krishnan who is a close friend of Major Parameshwaran spoke about how Parameshwaran was a highly dedicated person who always aimed high in his career.
