Apart from the beauty and fashion aspects of the Gold Jewellery, there is an Investment and saving perspective in it that makes it one of the important commodities all over the World.

On a stand alone basis Gold is very delicate to make it to a Jewel, mixing it will other elements is the only option. So the purity of Gold is measured in different categories like 24 Karat, 22 Karat, 14 Karat, 10 Karat and so on depending on the alloy in which the gold is mixed.

There is another measurement to decide the purity factor of the Gold. You have to divide the Karat number by 24 and then multiply it with 100 for obtaining the percentage factor of a Gold jewel. This measurement of Percentage and parts per thousand is also used in various hubs to realize the detailed quality of the pure gold.

For instance if the gold is 22 karat, dividing it by 24 and multiplying it to 100 will give you about 91.66 percent, which is the purity percentage of the Gold jewel you are buying.

Also the hallmark etched in the jewel can help you finding the purity. If there is a mark of 20K in the Jewel then it is 20 parts gold mixed with 4 parts of other metals.

24K - 99.9% (999), 22K - 91.7% (917), 20K - 83.3% (833), 18K - 75.0% (750), 14K - 58.3% (583) and 10K - 41.7% (417) are some of the most used markings of purity on a Gold Jewel.
