In a joint operation, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) have planned initiate activities leading to a cutting-edge infrastructure project.

The project involves building a four-lane elevated road on top of the six-lane IT expressway and an elevated corridor of Metro Rail above that. This covers a distance of a sprawling 17 km from Taramani to Siruseri.

There are 2 projects and the 1st project is to build the elevated road and this is expected to be completed in 2 years. In the 1st phase, the elevated road will be built on the section from SRP Tools junction to Siruseri. The elevation of the road will be at a height of 5.5 metre from the road. The height of the elevated Metro Rail track will be 4.5 metre above that. In order to reduce the project execution time, priority will be given to procure pre-fabricated items.

The stretch of the Chennai Metro section above the elevated road will cover 22 stations. The stations include - Tidel Park, Perungudi, Okkiyampet, Infosys, Sathyabhama University, Siruseri, and SIPCOT.

This corridor has a huge potential especially in the field of Information Technology – with these employees using the above for their commuting.
