TRANSTAN, an exclusive app for organ donation

9 year ago, the state of Tamil Nadu launched a registration for cadaver organ donations. After having grabbed over a thousand people for organ donation, now, an exclusive app is launched for the transplant authority.
 
The app is called TRANSTAN. It is available on PlayStore. On Friday (yesterday), the app along with its web version were launched by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami. However, according to the moral code of conduct announced after the Election Commission’s announcement about RK Nagar by-poll, it is said that the app launch is postponed.
 
Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar, addressing an event to commemorate World Organ Donation Week, however says the app can be downloaded from the PlayStore.
 
The prime target focus of the app are youngsters and smartphone users. With this, one can easily register for organ donation. This web page address is transtan.tn.gov.in.
 
The system should be made very transparent. We have been striving to take the lead role in cadaver donation program in India, the Chief Minister said.
 
Honoring the doctors, paramedical staff members and donor families, the CM said TN is pioneer in launching such an exclusive registry for organ donation and conduct free organ transplant in government hospitals.
 
In private hospitals, the state-sponsored insurance provides a funding of Rs 35 lakh towards surgeries involving organ transplant.
 
Enticing exclusive set up for heart valve storage
Dr Vimal Bhandari, the Director of NATTO insists Tamil Nadu to launch a regional tissue bank for storing heart valves and bones that we can later use within the region.
 
Such a valve storage system is available only with hospitals like Madras Medical Mission in the state.
 
During the period between October 2008 and April 2017, the registry has networked for harvesting about 308 hearts, 907 livers, 149 kidneys, 155 lungs, 308 hearts, and 2 small bowel apart from the 721 heart valves, 1466 cornea, a spine, bone disc tissues, and 58 skin grafts.
