Flight tickets likely to be raised

Posted on: 23/Nov/2017 5:35:35 PM
Passengers may have to pay extra towards flight charges as the government is set to increase fees towards passenger service by 38 percent so as to meet with the airport security costs.

According to earlier announcement by the government, the fee will not be changed. The Consolidated Funds of India shall take complete care of all security costs. However, the fee is hiked after the finance ministry ended up declining funding the deficit.

As per sources, this fund shall be transferred to the CFI cost in case of revenue-neutral which is the case of increasing passenger service fee.

According to sources, the range of increase in raise will be Rs 50 per ticket. In addition to helping fill the gap in annual fund, it will also bridge deficit accumulated over the years.

A sum of Rs 50 will get added to the Rs 130 which is the present day payment.

Officials said regardless of whether the funding is paid through CFI or finance ministry, the passengers will have to bear with increase in passenger service.

This cost for providing airports security in India is more than Rs 1300 crore and the levy collected is short by the range Rs 500 crore.
