The city of Chennai has been witnessing light rains for the past few days. In fact, before the arrival of the Northeast Monsoon season, the capital city has remained slightly rainy all throughout the month of October. In fact, there have been just a couple of days when the city of Chennai has recorded no rainfall while throughout the month light rainfall kept lashing the city.

The last 24 hours were quite rainy for the city of Chennai with moderate showers lashing the state capital. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, the Nungambakkam observatory in Chennai recorded a good 24 mm of rainfall.

These rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area which is currently over west central Bay of Bengal. Also, a trough is extending up to East Central Arabian Sea via northern parts of Tamil Nadu.

Thus, scattered rains will continue over the city of Chennai and neighbouring areas during the next 24 hours. By tomorrow, the low-pressure area will shift towards the North and weather of northern parts of Tamil Nadu will become dry.

October 19 onward, absolutely dry weather conditions are expected to persist over the city of Chennai. In fact, Chennai is expected to witness a dry Diwali this year.
