Water inflow upticks in Chennai reservoirs

The primary feeder in Chennai, the Red Hills Reservoir has started getting water inflow after 5 long months. As well, the Chembarambakkam and Sholavaram reservoirs have also started getting water supply, thus bringing relief to all the Chennaites who have been water starved.
 
About 2 months ago, the water storage had stopped at 1 percent is now getting inched up to 3 percent, says a senior metro water official. The intermitted rain showers have revived these water bodies, he states heaving a sigh.
 
In spite of the reservoirs being dry still, the neighboring lakes and ponds have started getting good flow of water in Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts.
 
Improvements in metro water borewells:
There is substantial improvement observed in the metro water borewells. If rain keeps continuing for the following 2 weeks, there will be betterment in drinking water situation, say sources.
 
All 3 reservoirs in received about 215 cusecs of water on Monday. There was 120 cusecs inflow of water in Red Hills, and 60 cusecs and 32 cusecs of water in Chembarambakkam and Sholavaram respectively.
 
There is slight improvement in the water table of Avadi, Velachery, Ambattur, Chengalpet, Red Hills, and Manimangalam.
