Strike by TN teachers and government staff

Posted on: 22/Aug/2017 11:43:58 AM
It is likely that more than 80 percent of employees and teachers will go on a strike in Tamil Nadu, affecting normalcy in Tamil Nadu. This is because of the state-wide strike planned by the Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (JACTTO-GEO).

Demands of the strike:
The strike is mainly for demands including non-disruption of old pension scheme to all employees, amendment of pay structure the same as central government staff, interim relief for up to 20 percent till the pay structure is revised.

One of the state convenors of Jactto-Geo, P. Ilangovan said more than 90 percent teachers and employees are set to go on strike. This is going to be a really massive strike. The demands should be addressed by the state government by inviting for a talk, he adds.

All elementary teachers are set to take part as they are hit by the anomalies observed with the 6th pay commission recommendations. It is likely that the higher and higher secondary teachers will also go on a strike.

AIBEA to go on strike as well
Furthermore, the All India Bank Employees’ Association will also go on a strike on Tuesday opposing bank privatization. This strike will see participation by all government banks, old private banks, and regional rural banks as well.
