Interim Ban on admission to medical course in Tamil Nadu Medical Colleges

On behalf of the students, the well-known advocate, Ms Nalini Chidambaram, has filed a petition demanding that counselling for the medical courses must be done at the earliest.
This petition was taken up for enquiry today. It had been ordered by the Attorney General of the central government to attend this enquiry and present an explanation of the NEET Emergency Act.
The enquiry was taken up in the afternoon again. However, the central government Advocate General did not appear. Mr Tushar Mehta presented himself on behalf of the central government and participated in the enquiry.
The state and central governments argued that the court cannot issue a banning order on the NEET emergency act.
The central government took the stand that it approved the NEET Emergency Act as there is no complication in the Act, The Tamil Nadu state government took the stand that the Emergency Act was passed fully within the Constitutional Laws.
In this situation, the Supreme Court ordered an Interim Ban on the admission of students in Tamil Nadu Medical Colleges.The Supreme Court ordered that the Central Government, the Tamil Nadu State Government, and the Indian Medical Council to send a report on the extent how students have been affected by the NEET. It adjourned the case to 22nd August.
The court also raised a question regarding the release of the rank/merit list for medical counselling. Also, what the state government is proposing to do to those who are affected by this Emergency Act. The court emphasised no sections of the student community should be affected by the emergency act.
