Fly from Chennai to Puducherry and Salem from September

It will become possible to fly between Chennai and Puducherry and Salem from September with the commencement of Regional Connectivity Scheme by the Civil Aviation Ministry.

In this regard, plans are being made by both the centre and state governments. Air travel is to be revolutionized as there are more number of people opting to fly, says P.W.C. Davidar, IAS, additional chief secretary of Transport Department of Government of Tamil Nadu.
 
To start with, the operations shall begin between Chennai and Puducherry. And it will be continued to Chennai to Salem route. The bids for Salem and Neyveli are finalized already. There is huge potential for Hosur. This is a private airfield and approval for the same is awaited.
 
Airports Authority of India officials state that there are interruptions in the course of approach towards Neyveli airport’s airstrip. Studies were conducted in this regard. At least by the end of October, the operations are planned to begin, said an official.
 
For about half of the total number of seats, special fares will be announced. These will be priced of the range Rs 2500, said an AAI official.
 
Budgetary provision
A budgetary provision of Rs 4,500 is allotted towards the RCS scheme by the cabinet committee on economic affairs.
