Tamil Nadu State Government has appealed to the Supreme Court against the verdict given by the Chennai High Court which cancelled the state government order for 85% reservation quota for medical admissions (for the students who studied under the state government syllabus).

In its order, Tamil Nadu state government had allotted 85% quota for the students who studied under the state government syllabus and the balance 15% quota for the students who studied under the central government syllabus.

A petition was submitted against this order on behalf of the CBSE students. When taking up this petition for enquiry, the Chennai High Court cancelled the government order of 85% quota as invalid. The state government appealed again to the Chennai High Court and again it was ordered that this 85% quota was invalid.

In this scenario, the state government of Tamil Nadu has appealed against this to the Supreme Court.

When enquiring regarding this to the officials, they explained that they had explicitly explained the rights and policy decisions of the Tamil Nadu Government in this appeal to the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court has to enquire this case by analysing it in a totally different perspective, if it has to favour the appeal by the Tamil Nadu state government.

Otherwise, the verdict will be likely to be against the poor and rural students from Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the state government has been taking all-out efforts seeking exemption from NEET.

If the exemption from NEET is given for 1 or 2 years, the problems will get solved. The students from the poorer section of the society and the rural areas will not be affected.
