A question was raised in the parliament regarding the application procedure for a passport. While responding to this question, the central government has informed that the application procedure for the passport has now been simplified.

In his reply, the central cabinet minister V. K. Singh informed that birth certificates are no longer required to apply for passports. Either Aadhar PAN card will do. This will be taken as a proof of the birth. The adopted individuals can produce the certificate obtained from their orphanage or similar institutions which adopted them.

In the new passport, the individual details will be printed in English and Hindi. The passport applicants aged below 9 years or aged above 60 will be given a 10% concession on passport fees.

The applicants online need only to furnish either of their parents name.

The number of sheets in the online passport application form will be reduced from 15 to 9. Self-attestation will be sufficient. There is no need to obtain acceptance signature.

The married persons need not submit their marriage proof. In the case of divorcees, they need not mention the names of their ex-husband/ex-wife as the case may be.
