Merit list released for admission to the engineering courses

The merit list of the applicants for admission to the engineering courses was released yesterday (Thursday, 22nd June) evening.
In this list, 50 applicants have secured 200 /200 cut off marks.
Anna University conducts the single-window counselling session for the admission to the engineering courses.
141077 applications were received online.
136988 applicants qualified for the next stage.
The random numbers for the qualified applicants were released on Tuesday, 20th June.
Subsequently, the merit list was released yesterday (22nd June).
The event of the release of the merit list was conducted at Anna University complex. The state minister for higher education, K. P. Anbazhagan, released the merit list for admission to the engineering courses.
The secretary of the state Department of Higher Education, Sunil Paliwal and Anna University Registrar, Ganesan, and the secretary of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission, Indhumathi participated.
The minister for higher education had a session with the press reporters after the event. He explained the reasons for the delay in the dates for counselling. Originally, the counselling was scheduled to commence on 27th June. However, the issues pertaining to NEET (for admission to medical courses) led to the NEET results being delayed. As a result, the counselling for admission to engineering courses got delayed.
In the merit list released, 53 students have got the cutoff mark 200/200. There are prospects that 36 students among these may prefer to join medical courses. There are 811 applicants with a cutoff mark 199/200. Out of this, there are prospects of 645 applicants to join medical courses.
2097 applicants have scored cutoff mark 198/200. 1681 may opt for joining MBBS.
In case the counselling had been conducted as originally scheduled, and many students opted to join medical courses, it would have been impossible to conduct a counselling session for the seats left vacant. Only because of this, the counselling got delayed.
Presently, as the counselling session is delayed, it may not be possible to open the classes for the 1st year classes for engineering courses on 1st August as ordered by the Supreme Court.
So, special permission will be obtained for a delay to commence the 1st year classes for the engineering courses a week or 15 days later.
