Kavikko Abdul Rahman passes away

The well-known Tamil poet Kavikko Abdul Rahman passed away due to illness in the early morning today (Friday, 2nd June).
He was born on 9th November 1937. He joined the group of poets known as Vanambadi, He did a research on the poetic notations in Tamil Language and received a Doctorate for the same.
He was a specialist in translating other languages poetry forms such as Haikus and Ghazals.
He was the teacher/guru for a number of younger generation Tamil poets including Arivumathi.
He was 80 years old. At about 2.00 AM today, he developed breathing problems while in his house located in Panaiyur, Chennai and subsequently passed away.
Kavikko Abdul Rahman received the honored award for excellence in literature - the Sahitya Academy Award for his poem Aalapanai.
He was the Chairman of the WAQF Board during the DMK government regime.
