The average download speed of Reliance Jio is 16.48 mbps. This is double that of Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel in the month of March, says a report from TRAI, the telecom regulator in India.
In March month, on an average, the download speed on Jio network is 16.48 megabit per second. The same was 8.33 mbps and 7.66 mbps with Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel respectively, says TRAI reports.
At this speed of 16 mbps, in just about 5 minutes, theoretically, Jio users can download one full Bollywood movie. The average download speed in Vodafone network is 5.66 mbps. With Reliance Communications, it is 2.64 mbps, and for Tata Docomo, it is 2.52 mbps, and with BSNL, it is 2.26 mbps, and with Aircel, it is 2.01 mbps.
TRAI makes use of MySpeed application on real-time basis for calculating the download speed. According to a survey conducted by Open Signal on mobile network speed at Delhi and Mumbai, and Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the fastest network in terms of download speed is Bharti Airtel with 11.5 mbps and Reliance Jio was listed in 4th place with 3.92 mbps. This survey involved studying 1.3 billion data points between December 2016 and February 2017.
According to Advertising Standard Council of India, it is misleading to advertise Airtel as the fastest network in the country. ASCI had requested the network to withdraw the ad or modify it within 11th April.
