Posted on: 21/Mar/2017 2:40:50 PM
The central government is planning to either close the universities and colleges which have not functioned properly or to bring them to the control of other universities and colleges.

Several reforms activities have been undertaken by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Meanwhile, the central department of Human welfare and development has set forth to review the quality of the universities and colleges throughout the country.

The UGC officials explained that all the universities and colleges will be divided into 3 categories for reviewing quality. The review will cover every university and college in the country.

The 3 categories are – very high quality, the scope for improvement, and very poor quality.

Category 1: The best quality

The best universities and colleges will be provided additional facilities and subsidies.

Category 2: Scope for improvement

The universities and colleges under the category of scope for improvement will be given detailed recommendations regarding the various measures to be taken for improving the quality.

Category 3: Very poor quality

The last chance will be given to the colleges and universities under this category to improve. They will be brought under the control of UGC and opportunities will be provided for improvement.

If there is no improvement seen after all these efforts, these universities and colleges will either be closed or merged with other universities/colleges.
