Posted on: 30/Dec/2015 12:44:47 PM
Incessant rain showers in Chennai resulted in heavy flood in Adyar River. The flood ravaged all the houses lying by the side of Saidapet Bridge, devastating their living. People residing in Aathumanagar, Dhideer Nagar, Aarokkiya Nagar, Dheviyammal Nagar and many other localities were badly affected and lost all their belongings.

The government is taking measures to provide them with necessary alternatives and rehabilitate their lives. Apart from providing them the relief materials and funds, the government has also migrated them from other safer localities. Furthermore all encroachments are being destroyed.

As a first phase of this, 1115 families are relocated from Aathuma Nagar and the works began yesterday. Nearly 200 houses were destructed yesterday. All their belongings were loaded in 100 lorries and taken to slum clearance board at Thoraipakkam. This involved using lorries from the Chennai Corporation.

People residing alongside rivers are being relocated to Thoraipakkam. The Chief Minister has allotted these houses at Thoraipakkam to these residents. Following Aathumanagar, other encroachments are being removed and migrated to other localities. These processes are carried out by Slum clearance board and Chennai Corporation.
