Banks will not function today

With the funeral of former President APJ Abdul Kalam taking place today at Rameswaram, the Tamil Nadu government today announced a public holiday on Thursday "as a mark of respect" to the departed soul.
A public holiday has been declared today to private and government educational institutions and establishments under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, "as a mark of respect" to him. All the nationalized and private banks will not function today.
