Foreigners throng in more numbers to the less-visited destinations

Chennai serves as a gateway to culture. People visiting the country or the Southern region of the country would definitely not miss out in visiting the city. Amidst this, people never fail to visit other attractions like Elagiri, Poompuhar, Yercaud and similar places too. During the previous year, there were good number of foreign nationals thronging to these less-visited places which are being familiarized by the tourism department. Here is a list of some of the destinations foreigners are recently attracted towards:
· Yelagiri and Yercaud hill stations
· Poompuhar, Nagapattinam district
· Panchalankurichi in Ottapidaram village, Thoothukudi district
Speaking to a senior official at the tourism department, he says it is an emerging trend for the foreigners to show interest towards these places. They are eager to explore places that are less visited. The department is currently focused on improving the infrastructure and facilities in such places, he added. There were over 17.26 lakh domestic visitors and 4983 foreign visitors for Yelagiri, and 53.58 lakh Indians and 4716 foreigners visiting Pitchavaram.
