Reservations open train tickets from 18th August for Deepavali visit to native places!

This year, the festival of Deepavali falls on 22nd October.

People planning to visit their native places for celebrating Deepavali can book their train tickets from 18th August.

As there are no prospects of special trains this year, it is better to book in advance.

As there is a facility to reserve 60 days in advance, the people stand in long queues in front of the nearest reservation counter and book their tickets in advance.

Those who plan to start on 21st October can book on 22nd August.  If there is some scope for taking additional leave, the people can start for their native place on Friday, 17th October itself by booking 18th August.

As bulk of the booking is done on the internet with ‘on-line’ booking facility, even standing and waiting for a long time in the queue may not be fruitful. Further, the speed for on-line booking has been increased now. Earlier, 2000 tickets were booked in 1 minute. Now, 7200 tickets can be booked per minute! Hence, it might be better to try booking on-line.

It was a tradition to run special trains during the festive occasions for travelling to other districts. However, no special trains were run by Southern Railway on the occasion of Pongal Holidays. The people were put to some difficulties.. Hence, it is better to remember that there may be no special trains run not only for Deepavali, but also during Ayudha Puja, Christmas & New Year.
