The central government had announced the demonetization of the old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes last November. In order to meet the demand for currency notes, RBI immediately started printing of the new Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 currency notes and released them.

Subsequently, the Reserve Bank of India decided to print new currency notes of Rs. 200 and commenced activities on this front.

The new Rs. 200 currency notes will have several safety features in order to prevent printing of fake/counterfeit notes. The central government analysed and reviewed on the features and testing of these new Rs. 200 currency notes in Hoshangabad in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
