Traffic congestions between Saidapet - DMS will be reduced in 6 months

The Metro rail authorities have announced that the blockades kept in the section between Saidapet - DMS for Metro Rail Project work will all be removed. The present acute traffic congestion would reduce considerably in the next 5 months.

The Metro Rail Project work has been in progress in Chennai over the last few years covering a distance of 45 km in 2 corridors.

Th Russian Company, which was given the contract to complete the work in the section Saidapet - May Day park was removed for the failure to complete the work on schedule.

The leading construction company L&T was selected to take up the balance work in this section and the work is resumed and in progress.

However, the project was in abeyance without any progress over the last 15 months, This has led to a very acute traffic congestion all the time in this section causing acute hardship to the vehicle drivers and the public.The wok was resumed in September after a long break. And is now in progress.

As per the progress until last month, the tunneling work between Saidapet – DMS has been completed and the track-laying work is in progress. 77% work has been completed in the section between DMS – May Day park.

The Metro officials explained that the tunneling and track-laying work in Anna Salai will be completed by September. After this, the activity of setting up the signals will commence. 

As the work is in progress, the blockades kept in Anna Salai are being removed gradually in phases as per the completion of work in the sections. So, the prevailing acute traffic congestion in the section DMS - Saidapet will reduce considerably in the next 6 months.
