The legendary film actor (Director, singer, story/script/dialogue director, dance master, etc.) known as super-actor, Kamal Haasan is setting for on to his 63rd year today (Tuesday, 7th November).

Given the popular titles super actor and Kalaignani, Kamal Haasan was born on 7th November in the year 1954 in Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district.

He entered the film world at the young age of 5 as a child artist in the movie ‘Kalathur Kannamma’. In his very 1st movie, he won the President’s award for the best child artist. Gemini Ganesan was the hero (and Kamal’s father in the movie). Kamal Haasan continued acting in child roles – he acted with the legendary actor ‘Nadigar Thilakm’ Sivaji Ganesan Parthaal Pasi Theerum and Paadhakaanaikkai. He acted with the popular actor MGR in the movie ‘Ananda Jothi’.

At the age of 18, Kamal Haasan began acting in minor roles in Malayalam films. The legendary director K. Balachander made him a hero, villain or a lead actor in the movies Arangetram and Sollathan Ninaikkiren. Kamal Haasan continued acting under K. Balachander in several films.

Director Bharahtiraja’s debut film, ‘Pathinaaru Vayadhinile’, in which Kamal Haasan acted in the lead role, turned out to be a classic turning point in his film career.

In a unique style, the director Bharathiraja made Kamal Haasan act wearing just a loin cloth though the star had acted in more than 50 Tamil and Malayalam films and had become an established name in the film industry. Actually, Kamal Haasan’s fame shot up to a new high after Pathinaaru Vayadhinile.

The film, ‘Ilamai Oonjaladugirathu’, directed by Sridhar, took the actor Kamal Haasan another giant step in his stardom.

He acted under director Balu Mahendra in the movies Gokila (Kannada) and Azhiyatha Kolangal (Tamil). Another movie, ‘Moondram Pirai’, in which the 2 legendary artists joined together, won Kamal Haasan the award for the Best National Actor.

In the year 1981, Kamal Haasan wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogue and produced the film ‘Raja Paarvai’. Though it was highly critically exclaimed, it turned out only to be a moderate commercial success.

However, this film was the base on which Kamal Haasan took strides to further his career as a director and producer.

Kamal Haasan acted in several commercial hits during the 80’s. The stupendous success of the film, 
‘Sakalakala Vallavan’, was the main reason for his foray into the commercial films. He established his own unique style. At the same time, the actor started acting in Hindi films as well. K. Balachander’s ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’ was the main film which was a great Box-Office Hit which established Kamal Haasan as an actor in the Hindi films as well.

After the 90’s, Kamal Haasan followed the pattern on 1 film per year. He acted in double roles and triples. In the movie. ‘Michael Madana Kama Rajan’, Kamal Haasan acted in 4 different roles stunning the audience and the critics. Later, he acted in 10 roles in the film, ‘Dasavatharam’.

Kamal Haasan has won the National Award for the Best Actor 4 times – the films being Moondram Pirai, Nayakan, Devar Magan, and Indian). He has also won the Filmfare award 17 times, a record for any fifilm artist. Kamal Haasan has also won 9 state awards as well. The list of awards won is quite long.

Kamal Haasan is stepping on to his 63rd year today (7th November). Usually, the routine on his birthday included some social services and activities such as blood donation, and offering some welfare measures. However, this year, his birthday is set on a different background – entirely political. Only the coming days will tell clearly how this is going to turn out.
