ELCBs must be installed to prevent electricity leakage

The Tamil Nadu Electrical Inspectorate has emphasised that the Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers must be installed in all houses and establishments in order to prevent accidents due to leakage of electricity.
In a special release, the note sent by the office, the following points are emphasised:
- ELCBs (Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers) must be installed in the main switch boards providing electricity to the houses.
- All the electrical wiring related activities must be entrusted only to the contractor having the government approval.
- The quality of the equipment installed must be good bearing the ISI mark. It is better to avoid fixing switches and plugs in wet areas such as bathrooms and toilets.
- It is better to avoid using electric gadgets when there are lightning and thunder. The public has to refrain from using the electric poles as pillars for erecting ‘Pandhal’ (awnings)
