In the production of food grains the state of Tamil Nadu is doing fabulously

It is known that from the year 2010-11 onwards ‘Krishi Karman Award’ have been  awarded to those states that are doing superbly in the production of food grains plus individual crops of rice, wheat, pulses etc.

The good news that has come out now is for the highest production of food grains such as paddy, millets and pulses the state of Tamil Nadu has been awarded with this superb award and that is for the year 2015-16.

On Saturday 17th march 2018 the farmers belonging to Tamil Nadu were felicitated during the inaugural function of Krishi Unnati Mela. This function that took place in IARI or Indian Institute of Agricultural Research, Pusa campus in New Delhi became cynosure of many eyes. In the year 2012-13 food grain mission was first launched so that there could be shift from food security to food surplus by means of a mission mode approach. The main objective behind this was to bridge the yield gap.

It is worthy to note that the state of TN introduced many frontier technologies with extensive extension support so that quantum jump in the food grains production could be achieved.  In the year 2011-12 the state of TN hogged the limelight when it got this prestigious award as the TN did amazingly in the production of food grains. It must be noted that food grains production that was 75.95 lakhs MT in the year 2010-11 rose to staggering heights of 101.52 lakh MT in the year 2011-12.

For the production of coarse cereals the state of TN bagged the award in the year 2013-14 and it was superb. Minister R. Doraikannu received this award on behalf of chief minister of TN and agricultural department secretary Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi also made his presence felt in the function.

It is superb that TN received this award and this award consists of a trophy plus citation and cash prize of amount Rs 5 crores.

For obtaining paddy yield of 9563 kg per hectare and pulses yield of 1700kg per hectare two farmers named Rasathi belonging to Ariyalur and Tirunelveli based Saminathan received an amount of Rs 2 lakhs each.
