The Producers Association President and actor, Vishal informed that new films will not be released until the new entertainment tax is withdrawn.

Tamil films come under the 28% GST slab. The Tamil Nadu government imposed another 30% entertainment tax. Under protest, the theatres were closed for 4 days during July demanding the withdrawal of the new tax. The state government formed a review committee on this issue. This committee conducted discussions with film industry representatives. Based on the outcome, the Tamil Nadu government reduced the new proposed tax from 30% to 10%.

However, the film industry still demanded the complete withdrawal as GST slab of 28% was already there. Further, the Producers Association blocked the release of new films as a mark of protest.

In this scenario, the President of the Tamil Film Producers Association, actor Vishal and Tamil Nadu theatre owners association president Abrami Ramanathan visited the secretariat. They had asked for an appointment with the Chief Minister. However, the permission to meet was not given. They waited for more than an hour to meet the ministers Kadambur Raju and Velumani, and Jayakumar. They had a meeting by the afternoon (Tuesday, 10th October).

After the meeting, Vishal informed that the dialogues will continue. A good favourable result may be expected in a day or two. New films will not be released till the new entertainment tax is withdrawn.
