Despite all the reverse effects of the demonetization, GST implementation, etc., teeming crowds thronged the jewellery shops to buy gold on the auspicious occasion of the Deepavali festive season.

In Tamil Nadu, around 1200 kg of gold jewellery on an average get sold every day. On special and auspicious occasions such as Akshaya Tritiya and Deepavali, the sales exceed well above the average.

As per the tradition and trend, the crowds thronged the jewellery shops yesterday (Tuesday, 17th October) for this years Deepavali as well. As it is expected that the crowds will be there to buy the gold jewellery today (Wednesday, 18th October) as well, it is estimated that around 5000 kg of gold jewellery will be sold on these 2 days.

While sharing information on this trend, the President of the Chennai Gold and Diamond Jewellery Traders Association, Jayanthilal Salani, explained that occasion, known as Danteras, is traditionally celebrated 1 day before Deepavali. The public follows the tradition of buying gold and silver and perform special pooja on this day.

As yesterday was the `Danteras day, there were roaring sales of gold and silver.

It is interesting to observe that this Deepavali, despite the recent reversals of the demonetisation and implementation of GST, the crowds have thronged to buy gold jewellery and it is expected that the sales will exceed the last year performance.
