In the earlier days, it was just sufficient to have just the registration paper for the house/plot as proof of ownership. However, nowadays, it has become necessary to have the Paata (ownership deed).

So, it has become necessary to safeguard both the patta and the house/plot registration documents.

In case the patta is lost, you cannot take it lightly under the pretext that the registration document is with you. Patta is very much required.

Patta is the real proof that the plot/house is owned by you. Further, Patta is required when applying for bank loans.

What if patta is lost?

You can apply again for a fresh patta indicating the reason. You need to approach the office of the Tahsildar and apply there.

While submitting the application for the fresh patta, it is advisable to attach a Xerox copy of the old lost patta. In case a copy of the lost patta is not available, it is better to furnish all important details mentioned in the lost patta.

The fees for getting the fresh patta must be paid through a bank challan. There are certain procedures to obtain patta. After submitting the application for the same, you have to get the application approved by the VAO (Village Administrative Officer).

The patta will be issued after the enquiry based on the enquiry outcome.A maximum of 15 days is allowed in the issue of a fresh patta.
