Plans to form new Metro corporations & merging all the local administrations

The city corporation administration is earnestly engaged in the formation of new Metro City Corporations and city corporations by linking the various local administrations.

It is an inevitable step to create all the infrastructure facilities in the current process of urbanisation. Even as the local administrations are growing by leaps and bounds with passing time, the state government is engaged in upgrading them to the next level by making the amenities required by the growth.

Local administrations are upgraded into small city administrations. Similarly, the small city administrations get upgraded as City corporations, City corporations get upgraded as Metro city corporations.

The central government allocates funds to the states for these local administration upgradation on the basis of the population, the city growth, and the infrastructure facilities.

Only on this basis, the Chennai Corporation was upgraded into Expanded Chennai Metro City Corporations after linking the suburban local administrations such as Ambattur, Alandur, Thiruvotriyur, Madhavaram and Ennore.

In a similar procedure, several new corporations were created. Once the local administration is upgraded as a corporation, the residents of the locality will have to be provided with all the basic amenities such assafe and treated drinking water, underground drainage system, underground sewerage system, solid waste management, rainwater drainage system, high quality roads/streets, subways, and overbridges.

Presently, the Chennai Metro Corporation has decided to upgrade the South suburban local administrations in Tambaram, and Pallavaram as corporations, and merge the city administrations and local administrations and upgrade as corporations. The present local administrators have agreed to this proposal.
 
Tambaram and Sembakkam administrations, Madambakkam, Peerkkankaranai, Perungalathur, and Chitlavakkam local administrations and further, Mudichur, Thiruvancheri, Agaram South Maduraippakkam, Vengaivasal, Ottiyambakkam, Mappedu, Varadarajapuram, Medavakkam, and Perumbakkam local administrations are to be merged to form a new city corporation.

In a similar procedure, the local administrations of Pallavaram, Pammal, Anakaputhur, Pozhichalur, Ghousebazaar, Thirisoolam, Moovarasappettai, Kovilambakkam, Nanmangalam, will be linked and a new Pallavaram corporation will be formed.

The local administrations of Idaikkazhinadu, Thirukkazhukkundram, Uthiramerur, Sri preumbudhur, Thirupporur, Mangadu, Kundrathur will be upgraded to corporations.

Urappakkam, Vandalur, Madambkaam local administrations are to be merged and upgraded as Urappakkam corporation. Moulivakkam, Ayyappanthangal, and Kerugambakkam, administrations will be merged and upgraded as corporation.

Thus, various local administration throughout the state of Tamil Nadu will be reorganized and upgraded. It is expected that all these upgradation will be announced before the ensuing local elections.

A local administration official explained that in order to do a uniform good quality job of provided the basic amenities and to get more fund allotted by the central government, several local administrations are being upgraded.

The current local administration officers have agreed to this proposal. A ratification of this proposal has been passed and a report has been submitted to the state government of Tamil Nadu.

These new formations are expected to be announced during the ensuing Legislative Assembly Session.
