Information is gathered that the toll gate charges are likely to go up by Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 from 1st April.

There are more than 350 toll gates throughout India in the National Highways. There are 44 toll gates in the state of Tamil Nadu.

There is a procedure of revising the rates from 1st September every year for 23 gates and from 1st April every year for the balance 18 tollgates.

The rates were revised in 23 toll gates during last September. This led to an increase in the hiring rates for goods vehicles as well as a hike in the fare of private bus service providers.

In this situation, rates are to be revised in 18 toll gates coming 1st April.

As per this, the rates will be revised in the following toll gates:
Tiruvallur district, Pattarai Perumbudur located next to Tiruthani, Vaanagarm, Kanniyur in Coimbatore district, Vaadipuram, Paranur, Aathur in Salem district, Krishnagiri, Salaipudhur in Thoothukudi district, Pallikonda, Vaniyambadi, Yettur in Tirunelveli district, Kappalur, Nanguneri, Chittampatti in Trichy district, and Perumpudhur in Kanchipuram district.

Depending on the type of vehicle, the rates are to be revised from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10. It is understood that the Central Department of Highways will make the official announcement in 2 to 3 days.

With this revision, it is naturally expected that prices of the vegetables and grocery items will shoot up.
