It is known that counselling for post graduate or PG medical and dental admissions has been going on now in TN.

The latest news that has emerged now is 54% of PG medical seats went to those doctors who are in government services and 45 % seats went to those non service medical candidates. This was based on the second day of this counselling. Out of a total of 443 seats that was allotted on the day, government service doctors got as many as 242 seats or 54% whereas the non-service doctors got 201 seats or 45%. This was according to the selection committee seat matrix.

It must not be forgotten that Medical Council of India or MCI abolished 50 % reservation for government services candidates in the PG medical admissions. This caused legal battle between the service doctors and the government and this has resulted in the counselling delay now. For those doctors working in remote, difficult and rural places the incentive marks were allowed. NEET based admissions was made compulsory by the MCI. It must be noted that the state of Tamil Nadu did not allow candidates who got seat through all India counselling.

In other states in India, the state counselling took place before the second round of all India counselling but in the state of TN this counselling was delayed and it created few issues for the candidates.

It is now revealed that this delay in counselling is actually a boon for the government service candidates. Otherwise most of the seats would have gone to non-service candidates. Since the MCI has abolished 50 % reservation for the government doctors in the post graduate admissions, the government services doctors would be affected this year.

One important piece o information is on Sunday, 20th May 2018, as many as 1344 candidates were called for counselling out of those 775 candidates have got seat in the all India quota
