Among the several temples dedicated to Lord Anjaneya in Tamil Nadu, the Lord Hanuman temple located in Namakkal is the most famous.

This popular temple is located in Namakkal west of the Malaikottai (mountain fort) right in front and facing the other famous temple of Lord Narasima and Goddess Namagiri Thayar. The main deity of the Lord Hanuman is in posture offering prayers to the Lord Narasimar with folded hands and open eyes.

There is no temple tower Gopuram for the deity of Lord Anjaneya standing at 18 tall.

  • Over 2 lakh devotees gather at this temple on the day of Hanuman Jayanthi (today, 17th December).
  • Another special aspect is that large number of devotees gathering during the weekends of Saturday and Sunday. Also, on important festive occasions such as Deepavali, Pongal, Krishna Jayanthi, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Tamil New Year Day, and the English New Year day,  a very large number of devotees visit the temple to offer their prayers.

As a pariharam or countermeasure as penance, the devotees make some special offerings for Lord Anjaneya garlands made of betel leaves, lemons, basil leaves, and vadas. Further, some special events such as butter Abhishekham on the deity of Lord Anjaneya are also performed.
