Posted on: 21/Nov/2017 3:04:22 PM
Coastal Tamil Nadu has been witnessing on and off rains for the past few days. Last 24 hours were no different and coastal did record light rains, with one or two pockets recording some moderate showers.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Cuddalore recorded 2 mm of rain, Palayamkottai 2 mm, Pamban 1 mm, and Chennai 1 mm. Karaikal was the only pocket in the state to record some good showers to the tune of 15 mm.

Although Northeast Monsoon is presently not active over the region but the presence of Monsoon surge and easterly winds from Bay of Bengal have been giving some rains over parts of Tamil Nadu.

According to Skymet Weather, a trough is seen extending from Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Comorin area to Lakshadweep region. With this, we may expect light to moderate rains over South Tamil Nadu for the next 48 hours. Coastal areas of the state could also record few scattered light rains.

Isolated rain could also make way to Chennai for the next 48 hours but no major activity is expected. Thus, weather during the day will continue to be warm and humid and nights would be comfortable.

Chennai rains will revive once again by the month end as the fresh low pressure area, which is presently seen in Gulf of Thailand is likely to get more marked and move towards Tamil Nadu coast by November 21.

According to weather models, moderate to heavy Chennai rains will return by November 30. At that time, city might have to battle flooding rains and traffic jams again.
