As a lot of people find it difficult to connect their SIM cards with the 12-digit Aadhar card, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has instructed the telecom operators including Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Jio to make the process OTP-based. Accordingly, users can connect their Aadhar with mobile number using OTP got on their mobile phones.

The last date to link Aadhar with SIM card is 6th February 2018. This facility of OTP-based linking will be rolled out on 1st December.

During last week, UIDAI had given its nod for the blueprint submitted by the telecom companies that seeks operating OTP-based verification processes for their existing subscribers.

The plans are approved. The implementation shall begin from 1st December, said CEO of UIDAI Ajay Bhushan Pandey.

Authenticating phone numbers using Aadhar called re-verification can be done at the stores directly.  This shall take place continuously. On the other hand, as the government has ordered the telecom companies, the exercise of doorstep visit for disabled or senior citizens or chronically ill subscribers to link Aadhar will take place too.

With the new method, it will also be possible to get the re-verification completed within the given time frame. The entire system shall get even more secure as misuse of mobile number will largely come down.
