Why is November 14 celebrated as Childrens Day?

As we all know, Children’s Day falls on 14th of November in India. It is celebrated as a commemoration to the birthday of the first Prime Minister of our nation, Jawaharlal Nehru who was born on the same day in the year 1889. Chacha Nehru or Chachaji is how kids tend to call him with love and admiration.
 
On Children’s Day, schools distributes chocolates, sweets and interesting gifts to children, and conduct various activities like debate music performances, dance events and so on to celebrate the day. Sharing clothes, toys, books and other essentials to the orphan children are also practiced widely in India.
 
Children’s Day on 20th November
Do you know the fact that Children’s Day has been celebrated on 20th November prior to 1964? In fact, it was celebrated as Universal Children’s Day by the United Nations. However, following the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, his birthday was declared as Bal Diwas in India for all the love, reverence and affection he had towards children!

Constructive educational developments
With his avid focus towards the development and education of children in India, Jawaharlal Nehru paved way for the launch of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS, as it is popularly known), and the Indian Institutes of Technology. In fact, it was he who took initiatives to establish the Indian Institutes of Management.
 
Besides playing a crucial role as a freedom fighter and politician, he has constructed a strong education and development for the welfare of children in India. Hence, his birthday, the 14th November is celebrated as Children’s Day across the country with love and fervor.
