CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) has fixed the charges to be paid by the local administrations for drafting the layout map of the unapproved plots in the city.

The state government of Tamil Nadu had recently announced the plan to streamline the data of all the unapproved plots of land throughout Tamil Nadu. As per this plan, the plot owners can pay the fixed charges and have the proper ownership deed for their plots.

Only if this kind of streamlining is completed, it would be allowed to construct houses in these plots and reside there. Otherwise, the building map will not be approved.

For the streamlined and approved plots, the respective local administrations will undertake the responsibility for providing the basic amenities such as drinking water, rainwater drainage, and electrical connection.

For the area under the domain of CMDA, these provisions will be arranged by CMDA. For other areas outside the domain of CMDA, it has insisted that DTCP will organise by entrusting this task to the respective local administrations (under CMDA control) for the streamlining task of the unapproved plots by appointing lay-out draughtsmen. The expenses incurred in this task will be reimbursed by CMDA to the local administrations.

In this situation, the Chennai Metro Corporation had floated a tender for the task of streamlining the layout for the areas under its control. A private company has been appointed for this.  For the plots with areas under 2 acre, the charges will be Rs, 3500 per acre. For the plots with areas in the range 2-5 acres, the charges will be Rs. 2500 per care. For the plots with areas above 10 acres, the charges will be Rs. 1000 per acre.

The rates fixed as above the Chennai Metro Corporation should be followed by the other local administrations. CMDA has sent a letter accordingly that only the charges fixed by following these instructions will be repaid.
