612 driving licences cancelled temporarily in Chennai South Region

The driving licences of 612 vehicle drivers have been cancelled temporarily for violation of traffic rules in Chennai South Zone.

The break-up of the driving licences withdrawn for different violations of traffic rules:
High Speed 87, Overloading of vehicle 406, Taking extra passengers on goods vehicle 33, Talking on cell phone while driving 85.

In a similar checking operation, special vehicle checks were conducted at the Chingleput tollgate during the entire night period and the vehicle test reports were issued to 131 vehicles. The driving licences were cancelled temporarily.

Further, during the checking, Rs. 37500 was collected as compatibility charges. A penalty of Rs. 3,38,000 was collected. 4 vehicles, which carried lengthy good items likely to cause serious accidents, were confiscated.

The Transport Joint Commissioner Ramalingam explained that about 50% of all accidents in Tamil Nadu are caused by the 2-wheelers. Most of the 2-wheeler drivers do not wear helmets. Hence, it would be advisable for all 2-wheeler drivers to be well aware of all traffic rules and regulations, wear helmets, and keep their original driving licences.
