The Tamil Nadu Department of Police has introduced a simple online procedure to obtain the copies of lost original documents such as passport, RC Book, and driving licence.

Arrangements have been made with the modified software in the main website of the Tamil Nadu Police Department http://eservices.tnpolice.gov.in to facilitate registering of the complaints received, the complaint, or finding the status of the FIR and CSR, locating/identifying the dead bodies, and the detail of FIR regarding the missing persons.

Further, a simple procedure has been introduced to register a complaint when important original documents such as passport, RC Book, driving licence, college/school certificates or ID cards.

A new system, known as LDR (Lost Documents Report), has been introduced from 30th August. According to this system, if any of the above-mentioned original documents are lost, complaints must be registered online. LDR will be given immediately. This LDR can be submitted to the concerned department and the duplicate documents can be obtained.

Each LDR will be given a separate, unique number. The validity of the complaint regarding the lost documents will be verified by the concerned department. It is mandatory to register the details of the government issued ID card while registering the complaint regarding the lost document.

This ID will be registered in the LDR. The officer in charge of issuing the duplicate will verify the ID card details given in the LDR and then issue the duplicate document. Please note that this facility is possible only for the documents lost within the state of Tamil Nadu.

So, in case you need to get any of the lost original documents as mentioned above, requesting the concerned RTO to take necessary action as per the complaint made.

Subsequently, the Transport Commissioner has sent a circular to all the RTO (Regional Transport Officer). This circular informs the announcement made by the Tamil Nadu DGP and this should be strictly followed by all the RTOs. Accordingly, duplicate certificate or a copy of the certificate should be issued to the complainant. There is no necessity for the RTOs to insist the complainants that they should get the proof from the Police Department.
