14th Presidential election in India - Voting commences today

The voting for the election of the 14th President of India commenced at 10.00 AM today (Monday, 17th July).

The voting is scheduled to continue until 5.00 PM tomorrow (Tuesday, 18th July).

All preparatory work and required arrangements have been completed for conducting this presidential election.

The contestants are:

·        The BJP nominee - Ramnath Kovind

·        The nominee proposed by leading opposition party Congress and its allies – Meira Kumar

The voting will be conducted in the parliament and the Chief Secretariat of all the states. Voting can be done from 10.00 AM to 5.00 PM. 4896 MPS and MLAs will be participating in the voting.

Vote value of MP/MLA

The vote-value of the MP or MLA will be counted based on the population of the respective parliamentary or the legislative assembly constituency.

In Tamil Nadu, the vote value of each MP is 708. The vote value of each MLA is 135.

Once the voting session for the day gets completed at 5.00 PM, the ballot boxes will be taken to Delhi with the required safety and security. Elaborate arrangements have been made to conduct this presidential election.
