Details of items whose prices are likely to be hike & down after GST

GST is set to be implemented throughout the country from 1st July. A detailed meeting was held regarding fixing the percentage tax for different items. In this meeting, the prices (Taxes) for 1211 items were fixed.

Out of these items, 81 percent will have an 18 percent tax. It is gathered that the central government has decided to exempt some daily essential food items like rice, wheat, and pulses from any tax.

No tax items:
No tax will be imposed on items like fresh meat, fish, chicken, eggs, milk, butter milk, curd, natural honey, fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, flour, besan, bread, prasadams, salt, stamps, judicial papers, printed books, newspapers, bangles, handloom, wheat, etc.

Items with 5% tax:
5% tax will be imposed on items such as fish fillet, cream, skimmed milk powder, branded paneer, frozen vegetables, coffee, tea, spices, pizza bread, rusk, sabudana, kerosene, coal, medicines, stent, lifeboats.

Items with 12% tax:
12% tax will be imposed on items such as Frozen meat products, butter, cheese, ghee, dry fruits in packaged form, animal fat, sausage, fruit juices, Bhutia, namkeen, Ayurvedic medicines, tooth powder, agarbatti, colouring books, picture books, umbrella, sewing machine, and mobile phones.

Items with 18% tax:
18% tax will be imposed on items such as flavoured refined sugar, pasta, cornflakes, pastries and cakes, preserved vegetables, jams, sauces, soups, ice cream, instant food mixes, mineral water, tissues, envelopes, tampons, note books, steel products, printed circuits, camera, speakers and monitors. 

Items with 28% tax:
28% tax will be imposed on items such as Chewing gum, molasses, chocolate not containing cocoa, waffles and wafers coated with chocolate, pan masala, aerated water, paint, deodorants, shaving creams, hair shampoo, dye, sunscreen, wallpaper, ceramic tiles, water heater, dishwasher, weighing machine, washing machine, ATM, vending machines, vacuum cleaner, shavers, hair clippers, automobiles, motorcycles, aircraft for personal use, and yachts
