No shortage of power even if more air conditioners used in hot weather

The scorching summer experienced this year has led to the increased public consumption of power with more air-conditioners switched on.

As the current generation from the thermal power plants, the power taken from the central government grid, and the power brought from external sources are more than adequate, the officials from TANGEDCO informed that no shortage of power is expected in the present situation.

The intensity of summer this year has been quite severe right from the start of March. Cities like Salem, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Madurai, and Nellai have been recording temperatures of over 40 Degrees Celsius.

As the formation of depressions over the Bay of Bengal tend to drift and move away from Tamil Nadu, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are no prospects of rain at all in Tamil Nadu.

With the summer scorching, people have been pushed to use air-conditioners. As there is a considerable increase in the usage of air-conditioners and fans, the consumption of electric power has gone up. However, a TANGEDCO official informs as the present power generation situation is satisfactory, there are no prospects of the power cut.

TANGEDCO official informed that the consumption of electric power has started increasing with each passing day as the summer this year has been quite severe. The consumption is of the order of 5 to 10 Lakh units per day.

Currently, on an average, 3000 MW from thermal power stations, 3900 MW from the central government grid, and 3500 MW bought from external sources are available, there are no prospects of any power shortage.

Generally, the breeze blow sets in from the middle of May. However, information is gathered that this breeze may start blowing right from end April. This would help in power generation from wind power. Further, one of the units in Kudankulam atomic Power Station, closed for maintenance, is scheduled to resume power generation shortly.

So, in the above healthy situation of power availability, even if the daily power consumption increases, there is no worry about power cut.
