Smartphones to get used in detecting food quality

The very first hyperspectral mobile device is here from the hands of scientists. This will enable smartphone cameras function as optical sensors which in turn can be used for sensing quality of food and helps in monitoring health.
Hyperspectral cameras are priced too high. These have been in use to meet demanding medical and industrial sensing and space and environmental sensing.
With this micro opto electro mechanical systems spectral technology, developing new mobile applications for environmental sensing and observation becomes easy, say researchers from VTT Technical Research Centre in Finland.
