There is nothing to get panic on the data breach that affected over 32 lakh bank cards, says Shaktikanta Das, the Secretary of Economic Affairs. Das also affirmed that stringent action will be taken in this regard.

All the hackings are done using computers and hence, it is easy for us to reach the trail; customers need not panic. The necessary action will be taken at the earliest, said Das, addressing an event organized by the German government.

A detailed report on this matter is sought by the government and upon receiving, appropriate action will be immediately taken.

This unprecedented security breach has affected both private as well as state run banks where over 32 debit cards are attacked by cyber malware in ATM systems.

Over 19 banks have reported about fraudulent withdrawals. Most of the banks that complained of the case have recalled the card numbers while others have locked the suspects.

For safety, SBI has insisted its customers to make use of only its own Automatic Teller Machines in order to enjoy safe transactions. Over 6 lakh debit cards will be replaced in ten days, says a senior SBI official. Our target is to issue new debit cards within ten days to all the customers whose cards are blocked, said Partha Pratim Sengupta, the Chief General Manager of Kolkata Circle, SBI.
