In a recent research, it is found that there will be over 81 crore smartphone users in India by the year 2021. This count is fifteen times that of smartphone users in 2015, the research adds.

Ericson, a telecommunication company in Sweden issued a report in this regard. In this, it is stated that compared to smartphone users in 2015, the number of users in 2021 will be 15 times higher. Likewise, the use of mobile data will also increase.

If the usage of mobile data in the year 2015 is around 1.4 GB per month, by the year 2021, the data consumption will be 7 GB.

There is continual increase in 2G data users until 2016. Following this, all the telecommunication companies started promoting 3G technology and they take necessary steps to promote this. Likewise, there is significant reduction in rates of smartphone. Further, there are companies offering free data along with smartphone and this is likely to increase too.

It is expected that the 3G and 4G technologies will increase profit levels for telecommunication industries. Total number of customers in India will increase by 65 percent by the year 2021.

WCDMA and HPA technologies will reach about 90 percent people within 2021, and services based on LTE technology will reach 45 percent people by 2021, said Paulo Coelho, the zonal head of Ericson.

According to this report, Indian smartphone users make use of mobile data mainly for making phone calls. This is the primary reason for such growth in telecommunication in India.

Further, smartphone users of the age 15 to 24 consider high speed data coverage as the key aspect. Nearly 70 percent of smartphone users who use their phone to check social media pages, send messages and surf the web say that they are highly satisfied with the telecommunication services they have. Nearly 60 percent of users and above say that they are happy and satisfied with mobile data services for video downloads. About 50 percent users say they are satisfied with video calling using mobile data.
