Long distant travelers have given a huge welcoming to bedroll kits launched at the Chennai central. The very first day of launch saw sale of 25 kits and there were 39 kits sold on the second day. About 220 online books for bedroll kit is also received, according to sources from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) sources. Of all the kits sold, 80 percent of them are ordered by sleeper class commuters.

A passenger heading to Coimbatore in Mangalore Express says the blanket is very soft and these woolen bedsheets are better than those provided in 3-AC and 2-AC coaches. I can take it along with me and hence I feel it so worthy, he adds.

Bedroll kit that comes in non-woven fabric bag comprising two cotton bedsheets and one pillow is priced Rs 140 at the counter. Similarly, a blanket kit that comes in non-woven bag with just one blanket inside is priced Rs 110.

The sale trend of bedroll kit and the total number of bookings received are clearly evident of quality of product and good acceptance among the public. Most sales are done to passengers who head to adjacent southern states. North bound commuters have not got enough awareness about the facility, says one of the IRCTC officials in Chennai central station. The service is also made available at Thiruvananthapuram central, Hazart Nizamuddin station and New Delhi station, in addition to Chennai central.
