Thiruvannamalai Karthigai Maha Deepam 2015

Owing to the auspicious day of Karthigai Deepathiruvizha, the Maha Deepam at the Thiruvannamalai hill at a height of 2668 was lit.



Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswarar temple which serves to be the destination of fire kick-started the Karthigai deepam by lightening fire on the 16th of this month. Idols of lord Vinayagar, Chiandrasekarar, and others were taken in chariots and showered blessings to devotees all over. The Therottam took place on last 22nd. This involved five chariots following one after the other.

The key event of this festival is to lit the Maha deepam. The event took place today with plethora of devotees reveling in the view. Owing to this special event, the temple was opened this morning and special Abishegam and Dheeparathanai were done.

At 4am, the Bharani deepam was lit inside the shrine of lord. A yagam was grown at the Artha Mandapam from where twenty Bharani Deepam were lit by Sivasariyargal. The Bharani Deepam was brought and shown to all devotees. 

Following this, as a symbol of Panchamahabhuta, five lights were lit using the Bharani Deepam. This was taken to each of the Sannidhi where the lights were lit in each of these.

During the evening, the pancha moorthigal were seen. Following this, the rare view of Arthanareshwarar Swami was seen dancing from the Sannidhi. This was seen at the Kodimaram of the temple.

This was then followed by blazing the widespread Dheepam exactly at 6pm. At the same time, the Dheepam present at a height of 2668 feet was lit. This view was welcomed and received by the huge crowd of devotees by changing Harogara..

The entire crowd along the 14km stretch along the Girivalam route experienced the amazing view of the Dheepam and worshiped it with great fervor.

Those who couldn`t make it to the temple watched it in the TV and got the lights lit at their respective houses at the same time. These Agal Vilakku were lit not only at houses, but along the road as well. Streets look embellished and people are found happy and joyous with these celebrations. There were firework shows at temples too.
