High-level central team to visit Tamil Nadu to assess flood damages

To make a first-hand assessment of the damage caused by floods and rains a high-level central team led by Joint Secretary (Home Ministry) Prasad will assess the damage caused in the worst-hit areas of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Cuddalore districts and the union territory of Puducherry. 
 
The team will include officials of Agriculture and Power Ministries and Central Water Commission. After the team assesses the damage caused by the floods, it will discuss about it with Tamil Nadu Government officials. Based on the recommendation of the team, the Central Government will allot funds to Tamil Nadu.
 
Jayalalithaa in her letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had said that as per the interim assessment, the State would require Rs 8,481 crore for immediate rescue, relief and permanent restoration of infrastructure and that the extent of damage could go up as north-east monsoon would last for many more weeks
