The state government of Maharashtra bought the London House where Dr. Ambedkar resided.

When Dr. Ambedkar, an expert on legal matters, studied higher education in London during 1921 & 1922, he was residing in No. 10. Henry Road, in West London. This was a 3-storeyed house covering 2050 sq ft.

The state government of Maharashtra came to know that the owner of this house intended to sell the house and decided to buy it. It was announced that the house will be bought at Rs. 31 Crores.

However, a lot of procedural problems were encountered and this delayed the purchase. Finally, the house was bought yesterday (Friday, 28th August). The house owner and the Maharashtra State Government Social & Law Minister Mr. Raj Kumar Patoli signed the agreement and exchanged the documents.

The house is planned to be converted into an international memorial. Mr. Santhosh Das, Head of the Ambedkar disciples and Buddhist organisations in Britain, informed that the house would be a cultural & educational centre.

Indian students who come for higher education and other people who have been impressed with Dr. Ambedkar policies can visit this place. The centre would be open after the renovation work to convert into a memorial is completed.

Minister Raj Kumar patoli, who visited London for signing the sales agreement, told that this was a historic moment. This house is not just a mere house this is place full of emotional fervour for Indian people.
