Here is a new update of WhatsApp on Android OS. This has got new features in it including mark as unread, custom notifications, etc. This new version of the app is available on Google Play.
This updated version was in fact rolled out to the users on Google Play in the month of July, however it was only available via the official website of the company. The new version is 2.12.250.
Users will be able to set custom notifications for groups and separate contacts with this version of WhatsApp. These settings can be found in the detail page of the contact or group that is found below media box. This setting box is inclusive of options to mute a chat and to set new custom notification option. With this, users can set custom options for tones, length of vibration, popup notification, flash of light at times of notification or call notification tone.
This update also has feature to mark messages as unread using which users can mark the chat as unread by tapping the notification and holding it. To note, this unread feature is helpful in switching the status only with the receiver’s end and not with the sender. This feature is intended to be of help for the users to get back to chat at later time.
Furthermore, this version will also let the users enjoy lower data consumption for voice calls which will be very useful at locations where users have got limited access to the web. This option can be found under the Chats and Calls under WhatsApp call under Settings.
This also has new emojis included in it. The emoji can be tapped and held to change its color too. There are options to send quick messages and save contact numbers easily when a contact card is sent. This version of WhatsApp also supports two additional languages – Urdu and Bengali.
