Special buses to be run for 43rd Anniversary of Chennai Besant Church

43rd Anniversary of Annai Velankanni Church in Besant Nagar, Chennai commences today (Friday, 28th August), with flag-hoisting ceremony. Dharmapuri District Bishop Mr. Larren Paes presides over the celebrations and will hoist a new Velankanni Flag of 12` length & 8 height.

`Punitha Arokya Matha` Flag chariot procession will start at 4.45 PM from the Church Complex and proceed through important streets of Besant Nagar and then return. Celebrations starting today will continue for the next 10 days.

Several programs including special prayer sessions are to be conducted during these 10 days. Laborers Festival is scheduled to be celebrated on 30th August under the president ship of Trichy District Pope Anthony D`cotta.

`Deva Azhaithal` will be celebrated on 31st August. `Thuravaram Sabaigal festival will be celebrated on 1st September. Teachers` festival will be celebrated on 2nd September. `Nalam Perum Vizha` will be celebrated on 3rd September. Youth festival will be celebrated on 4th September. `Bhaktha Sabaigal` festival will be celebrated on 5th September under the president-ship of Trichy District Pope Mr. Soundara Raju.Narkarunai festival will be celebrated on 6th September under the president ship of former Chingleput District Pope Mr. Needhinathan. `Annai Maria pirappu vizha and Arokiya Annai` festival will be celebrated on the concluding day of 8th September.Crowning of the Divine Mother is scheduled at 5.30 PM on 8th September followed by `Jabamalai Nandri Thiruppani`. The hoisted flad will be pulled down after this signalling the end of the 10-day celebrations.

Throughout the 10-day festival period, various activities will be conducted both in English & Tamil. In order to facilitate the devotees coming to Chennai, the Transport Department is operating special buses from various places.

Popes, Fathers, Sisters, Religious people, self-initiated service persons and the public are expected to participate in thousands. The police department is making all the arrangements for safety and security. The president of Annai Velankanni Church Father Francis Xavier informed the above details in a press meeting.
